With the arrival of spring find out what you can be doing in the garden this month:
Chit and plant out second early potatoes during the first two weeks of April, followed by maincrop potatoes in the last two weeks of the month.
Sow seeds outdoors including carrots, lettuce, leeks, turnips, peas and perpetual spinach, and plant out onion sets and garlic.
Plant asparagus crowns. Don’t be put off by claims that asparagus is difficult! It is simple – once established, asparagus beds are low-maintenance. It just needs room to grow an da little patience. In fact 12 plants in a single row will provide a great crop in just two years.
It’s a great month for seeding (or-reseeding) the lawn. You also need to mow little and often, keeping the blades set quite high.
