It may only be November but you won’t be surprised to discover that many local venues are already booked for Christmas Day. So whether you are organising the traditional festive family get-together or you’ve been nominated to arrange the office do, now’s the time to start planning and to book to avoid disappointment. And if it’s turkey with all the trimmings, a roast with the most, Italian, pan Asian, Indian or fish or burger and chips, you’ll find something to suit all tastes and budgets locally.
A more sobering thought is that the UK is notorious for food waste during the festive season – in 2015, 4.2 million Christmas dinners were wasted across the UK according to transnational consumer goods company Unilever and new research finds householders are more likely to bin food over the festive holiday due to a lack of culinary knowhow.
For those of us set to celebrate – and indulge – in style, the average Brit will gain 6lbs in the eight days between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day – with the worst day for calorie consumption being Christmas Day itself when most of us unwittingly consume a jaw-dropping 7,000 calories!
