The countdown to the seasonal celebrations starts here – and Tunbridge Wells is the one-stop destination for all things festive: from eating out and entertainment to independent shops and chain stores for those perfect gifts to Santa’s Grotto and the ice rink in Calverley Grounds – not to mention the Best Dressed Christmas Shop Window Competition!
When the Christmas season is upon us, so the magic begins…
The ice rink in Calverley Grounds in the centre of Tunbridge Wells is a firm favourite festive destination. Open daily from 17th November to 1st January (closed Christmas Day), booking in advance is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. And as Father Christmas has so many places to be delivering presents, he will be popping into town on specific dates so book ahead to see him in his beautiful log cabin in Calverley Grounds alongside the ice rink. See page 70 for opening times, prices and booking details.
This year the town’s Christmas light switch-on will be on Sunday 19th November when Father Christmas takes up residence in his Festive Grotto under the cover of Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre.
• In celebration of the arrival of Santa Claus on 19th November, visitors and shoppers can take advantage of free parking from 10am-5pm across the borough in the council’s car parks.
In December, there will be free parking after 4pm from 18th-23rd December 2017.
Christmas isn’t complete without a visit to the pantomime – and you’re spoilt for choice with Aladdin at the Assembly Hall Theatre and The Yellow Brick Road at Trinity Theatre.
The Festive Farmers’ Markets outside the Town Hall take place on the last Saturday of November and second Saturday of December.
There is also a special Christmas Farmers’ Market on 21st December for your fresh, locally-sourced seasonal food and gifts. Stock up on all the essential ingredients for all your Christmas meals.
