The classic red lipstick has been voted the number one iconic beauty look in a new study looking for the top 50 best beauty trends of all time.
Winged eyeliner and smokey eyes were among the most iconic looks, however the bold red lip which has been the calling card of iconic beauties over the years from Marilyn Monroe to Scarlett Johansson, topped the list.
“Women’s beauty and fashion changes from one day to the next, but as this survey suggests there are some beauty looks which will go down in history as being the most iconic,” said a spokesperson for Superdrug.
Second in the poll was the winged jet black eyeliner Taylor Swift is famed for, while the third most votes went to Keira Knightley’s simple and sophisticated take on the smokey eye.
Also high on the list were French manicures, natural looking make-up, glossy lips, bronzed skin and a fake beauty spot.
When it comes to hair, the most popular trend was the long wavy curls favoured by the Duchess of Cambridge, along with the beehive, the bob, French braids and the pixie crop.
The poll of 2,000 women, conducted by high street store Superdrug, also included some more quirky looks, such as metallic eyeliner, Mod make-up and a shaved undercut.
