Having just undergone a £2.4 million refurbishment I was intrigued to find out what changes had been made at the Royal Wells Hotel in Tunbridge Wells. Before you even enter the building you can see just what they have been doing with a clean bright white exterior leading into an opened up reception area. IMG_0166On arriving we were shown through to the extended bar for a drink before entering the beautiful Orangery where we were seated with views of the newly-created courtyard garden.

Having looked through the menu with a variety of differing dishes, I chose to start with the soup of the day – cauliflower and cumin which came with lovely toasted bread – while my partner chose to save himself for upcoming courses by having some crusty bread and butter.

For a main he opted the flavoursome 10oz ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce while I decided on the fillet of seabass, beautifully presented on a bed of vegetables. When it came to dessert the selection was plentiful – honey and raspberry brulee and citrus posset among others, but we went for the favourite – chocolate and pistachio brownie which rounded off a lovely visit in which the attentive staff made us feel very welcome in their transformed surroundings.
